Title Landscape diversity
Alternate Title Patch Density of Near-natural and Natural Areas [72]
Publication Date 2008-04-30
Abstract The pattern of a landscape is of special significance for the species diversity of plants and animals. In theory a highly structured landscape with high diversity of land cover and strongly linked areas will have a positive effect on biodiversity. Some of the landscape qualities mentioned, however, can be mutually exclusive, e.g. strongly linked areas and a highly structured landscape. Nor can these attributes be generalized for all animal and plant species as their needs may vary greatly. It is therefore not possible to claim that a highly structured landscape or great structural diversity are positive per se.
